Morning Dish

You know it’s the middle of July when the only news you here is of the NBA Summer League. And the stats of some of these Summer League players are surreal (Anthony Randolph tying a SL record with 42 points, Blake Griffin’s 27-12 first game). One of my favourite Slam editors, Lang Whitaker, summed it all up in less than 140 characters.

You also know it’s July when you see the girls, girls, girls, girls.

Normally July is a boring month in the world of the NBA if it wasn’t for Diesel.

Hate em or Love em, he is hella funny. Here’s his tribute to the late great MJ.

Glen Davis turns down an offer to play for the Red, White and Blue.

The Golden State Warriors fire Mitch Richmond via text message:

‘Not only that, Larry Riley mistakenly told him he was re-hired at first:

Riley text-messaged Richmond. I don’t have it word for word, but people who know the back-and-forth say it was something very much like: “I can tell you we will be retaining you for next season.”…

Probably realizing there was more to the story, but wanting to see where this was headed, Richmond text-messaged back to Riley, something to the effect of: “OK, fax me my contract.”

–Riley either immediately realized after sending his text that he made an error or, once he saw Richmond’s reply, REALLY realized the error.

He had to send another message to Richmond. Something very close to: “Sorry, I missed a word. I meant to say that we will NOT be retaining you.” ‘

Sucks to be you Mitch got fired even though he was a part of Run T.M.C.
